The wait is finally over, Cebu, as SM City finally unveiled the tarp that covered a what used to be the old SM Cinema 4. As it follows the success of Philippine’s first IMAX theater at the SM Mall of Asia in Luzon, the IMAX theater for SM City Cebu will replace cinema 4 screens that is smaller than the one at SM Mall of Asia (note: 14 meters high) and features a clearer picture quality due to its use of a digital projector as opposed to a film projector.The 400-seat Cebu theater that caters to the Visayas and Mindanao moviegoers is the raison d’etre last Friday, July 3, for Cebu media and personalities to witness the IMAX Cebu Pre-Launch Cocktail Party.

It was sensory overload as the atrium of SM City Cebu Northwing was filled with an IMAX baller-id clad crowd who did not blink an eye as the 3D Fashion Show started.

Working on the theme of 3 Designers, 3Djs and 3 Digital Scenes for 3 Dimensional, the runway was split into three ramps as Cebu fashion designers Edwin Ao, Arcy Gayatin and Philip Rodriguez all turned the stage into their playground as they each revealed fabulous piece after piece. With accompaniment from Cebu’s top DJs’ Bong Suzara, Marlon Orellano and Mael Lavares, the fashion show was so fast and almost digital-like you would be tempted to ask for a repeat performance while wearing those 3D shades this time.

The theater opens today, July 9, 2010 with James Cameron’s Avatar in 3D and with ticket prices that are twice as much as the regular ticket price you’d pay in SM yet an experience multiplied a million times over and over again.
